The ICC T20I Championship 2012 is entering interesting phase as Sri Lanka and South Africa are through to the Super Eight phase playing the 7th match of the championship in the Group C Saturday today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota. Both Sri Lanka and South Africa have two points each.
South Africa, who are fresh from beating Zimbabwe by 10 wickets, have the strength of its fast bowlers and its otherwise aggressive team. However it suffers from an inexperienced middle order batting line. The South Africans will mainly be relying on Jacquis Kelly, the best all rounder that they have.
Sri Lanka too has tested batsmen like Dilshan and Sangakkara and Jayawardene. They may be testing the skills of their new opener Dilshan Munaweera to show his skills.
The opposing squads are as under:
Sri Lanka:
DPMD Jayawardene*, AD Mathews, LD Chandimal†, TM Dilshan, RMS Eranga, HMRKB Herath, KMDN Kulasekara, SL Malinga, BAW Mendis, BMAJ Mendis, EMDY Munaweera, MKPAD Perera, NLTC Perera, KC Sangakkara†, HDRL Thirimanne
South Africa:
AB de Villiers*†, HM Amla, F Behardien, J Botha, JP Duminy, F du Plessis, JH Kallis, RE Levi, JA Morkel, M Morkel, JL Ontong, WD Parnell, RJ Peterson, DW Steyn, LL Tsotsobe
Umpires RA Kettleborough and RJ Tucker
As for the venue, the Mahinda Rajapaksa International stadium has heavy winds that blow across the ground. However, the wind intensity generally subsides by around 7 p.m.
The match is scheduled for Saturday, 22 September 2012 at 10:00 GMT at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.
