The Brownlees had become the first British brothers in more than a century to stand side by side on the podium after competing in an Olympic event. The brothers won gold and bronze in the Triathlon event of London Olympics Tuesday.

Until the Brownlees, Reginald and Laurie Doherty were the last British brothers to win an Olympic event, taking the tennis doubles title in 1900 in Paris, although gold medals were not awarded at those games.
Alistair, 24, won the toughest event of London 2012 so comfortably he had time to grab a flag from the crowd and run the final 100 metres with it billowing above his head. He was so exhausted that he slowed to a walk before crossing the finishing line in Hyde Park, then turned to wait for his brother.
