Andy Murray made history for himself and Great Britain Sunday today as he beat seven times Wimbledon title holder world no.1 Roger Federer of Switzerland to win the Olympic gold for his country. It was also his first win in the Olympic final as well as on the Centre Court of the Wimbledon.

Right from the outset Murray seemed determined to win the gold and did not let the Swiss to take any advantage of him. Murray won 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.
He is the first British man to win the Olympic singles gold medal since Josiah Ritchie in 1908.
Andy Murray had never beaten Federer in a best-of-five-sets match and lost to him in the Wimbledon final. He shed tear when he lost Wimbledon Final - today, he wept in joy, while Federer hurriedly exited the arena to hide his wet eyes.
In the Bronze Medal match, Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro beat Serbian Novak Djokovic. Jean Julian del Potro who almost beat Federer in the semi final, before he gave in to the Swiss, did not show any hesitation to let the game slip today and won over the Serbian 7-5 6-4. The match lasted one hour and 48 minutes on Court One at Wimbledon.
